Devotional Thoughts and Teaching Illustrations About Hero
In the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Chris Klug won a bronze medal in their parallel giant slalom snowboarding event. He jumped over 2 retaining fences to hug family and supporters. It was a special moment to share because 19 months before Chris was dying. He was 20 years old when doctors discovered that he had a rare liver disease. PSC, the same disease that killed football great Walter. Peyton for seven years, it wasn't too bad. Then at 27 years old, the disease became aggressive and the doctors told him without a transplant he would die and soon. Chris knew that 16 people die each day on the transplant waiting list because there is no organ available. But nineteen months ago, a 13-year-old Denver boy was accidentally but tragically shot and killed. His family made the emotional decision to donate their son's organs, and Chris was the match. Upon winning an Olympic medal, Chris said. I'm lucky to be here today. Without the gift of the donor family, I wouldn't be here. They're the real heroes. I'm just trying to get the message out. You think about that!
